Christian Mission Academy (CMA)
February 2013 ––Update
So many improvements have been made at CMA in the past 5 years. We built a new school, the children are fed porridge every day, the teachers are paid. 20 children have graduated and are in middle school. The children are now able to dream of a future. This is all possible because of the sponsorship program and donations from supporters of the project.
78 children are sponsored, 104 are needed to meet our monthly operating budget. (maybe a tax refund could go toward this life changing gift)
Secondary School Sponsorship – We raise enough money to pay for all 20 secondary students school fees. We still need funding for 6 more children uniforms and school supplies.at $100.00 each.
Goal Number 1- Improving the Children’s health
Three weeks ago Samuel an 11 year old boy died of malaria because the disease reached his brain before the family could get treatment for him.
All the Children at the school have some or all of these condition visible signs of ring worm, extended bellies from starvation filled with worms. Many children are orphaned by HIV. During our last visit we saw a maggot hatch and a fly crawl out of a babies nose. The need is more than you can imagine.
1. The Ugandan Medical team has already been identified. I am working closely with them to get them the information they need to plan and complete a successful health assessment of every child.
2. When the children returned to school on February 4th we started collecting detailed information on every child. The age height and weight of the children will be provided to the on the ground medical team to determine how much medication, supplies will be needed and the estimated cost of treatment.
3. A very generous donation was made to purchase the test kits from Science with a Mission for malaria, typhoid and HIV.
4. Zontas Club of West Suburban Boston made generous donation toward the purchase of ointment for the children’s treatable skin disease.
5. Approximately 200 children still need mosquito nets. $10.00 each
6. Providing income for the families. For 3 year we have been providing the sponsored children with a pig or a goat. Last year we did an assessment of this project. Only 4 out of 34 families that received a pig did not earn any income because the pigs became sick. The project is a success! This January we purchase all the hog from a piggery that was going out of business. 40 families received the gift of adult hogs 10 were pregnant. 5 hogs have already delivered 9 piglets each. When the piglets are weaned 3 will be given away to another family.
7.We have flooded the village with hogs now we need to add the demand. We have an investment opportunity for a sausage and pork jerky business. The start up cost of the business is $3,000.00 This is a very exciting opportunity we will be introducing pork jerky which will be a new product in Uganda. Email Sandy if you are interested.
Amakula
In 2009 I sent money for a Train the Trainer Program to 2 young girls. I provide them with the funds to purchase the material and paid them fairly for the product. I have been selling their product now for 3 years. January 2013 these 2 young girls had saved enough money from this project to open a retail store in their village. They now have another source of income. We also decided on a name for our business Amakula – in Lugadan means a Gift for Royalty. New products will be arriving for the Science with a Mission Quilt Show and Craft Sale Saturday March 23rd @ The Covenant Congregational Church 204 Center Street North Easton MA
The Jesus Power Church Sewing Business
We received a very generous donation of material for the ladies. So much it all would not fit in my car.
Two women from Florida that Pastor Frank met in 2010 are going to Uganda this month they are bringing the first shipment of material with them. They promise they will take pictures.
Donations are always welcomed 100% goes to support the school and families in Uganda. Loving a Village one child at at time!
